The results are out!

Update: Congratulations to those selected for the prestigious Blue Book traineeship!
But this is not the last step in this competitive process. Even though you are now listed in the Blue Book, in order to be noticed and selected by emploees for a traineeship, you need to lobby to make you visible and get selected. Usually, only 50% of those selected in Blue, are selected for a traineeship. 90% of traineeship places are filled in the first 10 days from the announcement of results. That is why you need to hurry up, however, now, most of Head of Units are now on holidays already and they will reply to you only after 4 January.
We know and have all the hints and good practices for a good lobby! Visit our dedicated page.

Lobby phase – coming soon…

Published on 30 November 2020

After pre-selection, you get on a list. Normally, there are places only for less than half of those pre-selected. With COVID-19 situation there might be even less places (the eligibility check already was more stricter). From this list (called Blue Book), the employers (Head of Units) are choosing their trainees, searching by certain criteria. Usually, through this way are selected people with rare specialty domain of studies/relevant experience, rare languages or something else that makes them rare on the market. Or just good luck. But if you do not have something that will differentiate you from dozens of highly educated candidates (mainly in political affairs, IR, European studies, economics, law, journalism/communication etc), then you need to promote yourself in order to get a place!

Therefore, immediately after you receive a pre-selection confirmation, you need to lobby.

We have published on our site a full package of information related to the lobby phase of the Blue Book Traineeship preselection process (it requires subscription, details bellow).

Click here to access it: Lobby phase March 2021

It consists in:

  • – What is the selection procedure at the last stage of the pre-selection
  • – Why is so important to lobby and what does it mean
  • – How to find information about desired DG, Directorate and Units
  • – How to find the email addresses where to send your emails
  • – What a lobbying email should contain and and how to draft it
  • – To which DG you should lobby to increase your chances of selection
  • – Detailed and practical description of the next steps such us telephone call/interview, booking of the candidates, decision making process, final response and traineeship offer.

Frequent Q&A

  1. If ‘booked’ by a unit, will I receive written confirmation of the unit specifying which place I have in their booking (i.e. 1st, 2nd or 3d)?
  2. I was told that candidates in the Blue Book are ranked. When results are out, do I know what ranking I have? Is the ranking taken into consideration by the units?
  • When several units are interested and I have been booked by one, can I redraw from this booking to get booked by a different unit?
  • Would it make sense to write an email in the native language of the head of the unit even if it is not a working language?
